Black & Veatch and McCarthy Building Companies are joint-venture
partners teamed to deliver the design-build portion of a design-build-operate
(DBO) contract for the 80-mgd Lake Pleasant Water Treatment Plant.
Our team is a subcontractor to American Water Services, which will
manage the $336 million DBO contract awarded by Phoenix in August 2003
and operate the facilities for 15 years.
The project consists of raw-water intake structure, pumping station
and large-diameter pipeline to deliver raw water 1.5 miles to the 225-acre
treatment plant site. Innovative, high-tech treatment elements include
ballasted flocculation, ozonation, filtration, secondary filtration
provided by granular
activated carbon (GAC) contactors, and ultraviolet disinfection (UV)
followed a 40-million gallon buried finished-water storage reservoir
and finished-water pumping to the distribution system. Our project
scope includes design,
construction, startup, testing, commissioning and securing all permits
for design, construction and operation. Construction is planned for
July 2004 and delivery of finished water to the city's distribution
system is scheduled for February 2007.
