The
TransAmerica Generation Grid (TAGG) will provide up to 18,000 MW of electrical
generation from low-cost fuel sources, resulting in a stable and predictable
source of electricity to offset price volatility in natural gas. Limitations
in the power delivery infrastructure have constrained development of abundant
energy resources in the northern and western plains states, blocking access
to high-demand population centers.
The upper Midwest will serve as TAGG’s power generation hub, from
which it will transmit 9,000 MW of power over HVDC transmission lines simultaneously
between the eastern and western parts of the United States. At each terminal
point, the power will be transformed to alternating current and stepped
down to lower voltages for transmission on local grids to end users and
consumers.
