The TransAmerica Generation Grid (TAGG) is a unique national
energy initiative to deliver more reliable, cost-effective power
through a High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission path,
and link major load centers between the eastern and western parts
of the United States. The pathway will allow economical power
exchanges, increased system reliability and security, reserve
sharing, seasonal and time-of-day peak load diversification and
development of additional generation resources. The HVDC transmission
path would reach from Northern Illinois to Southern California,
traversing abundant upper Midwestern wind and solid fuel resource
areas to maximize development of mine-mouth generation and enhance
the economy of wind generation.

“With the nation’s existing grids,
getting surplus energy to areas that need energy is almost impossible.
TAGG envisions a strong national electrical power system that would both
generate more power and deliver surplus power on demand to regions that
need it.”
