115 kV EPC Transmission Line Project, Chiang Rai - Thailand

& Veatch was selected by Provincial Electricity Authority of Thailand
(PEA) to supply, construct and install a 115 kV, single conductor per
phase on a self-supporting lattice steel tower transmission line. The
first 42 km of the line from Chiang Rai is double circuit while the
remaining western 50 km segment is single circuit. The work includes
dismantling the existing 33 kV line. The line is located in northern
Thailand near the Burmese border and passes through densely wooded and
environmentally sensitive hilly terrain and reserve forests of Chiang
Mai and Chiang Rai provinces. The total line route is 92 km and is divided
into two contract segments of 56 and 36 kms. The conductor is 795 ACSR
"CONDOR", and the overhead ground wire is OPGW.
The work consists of the design, manufacturing, factory testing, delivery
at site, erection, testing on site, commissioning and maintenance for
the supply of steel towers, foundations and grounding materials, conductors,
overhead ground wire, insulators hardware and accessories and all works
related to transport and erection including dismantling of the existing
33 kV transmission line.
Black & Veatch and Siam Civil Engineering Co. Ltd of Thailand in
joint venture are EPC contractors of the project. The contract was awarded
in September 1999 and was completed in 2001.
