National Missile Defense System Program

Black & Veatch Special Projects Corp. is under contract to the U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville, Ala., to provide A&E services on a wide range of projects critical to the National Missile Defense (NMD) System Program. This contract, which is ongoing, is scheduled to run through the year 2005 and possibly beyond. To date, Black & Veatch has prepared designs for the following five unique projects to be constructed at various locations.

• Missile Test Facilities
  
• Ground-Based Radar Prototype Facility
  
• Space Based Laser Test facility
  
• NMD Deployment Facilities
• X-Band Radar Facilities

The program includes missile assembly, deployment and launch facilities; space vehicle assembly and test facilities; command, control and communication facilities; secure, high reliability power production facilities; and radar facilities. Also included are personnel support facilities and site design.

Black & Veatch has also provided program support through the preparation and production of Project Development Brochures, providing briefings to high level civilian and military authorities, coordination with NMD systems contractors and site evaluations of existing facilities.

A&E services provided have included the development of program documents, design related analyses and studies, economic analysis, topographic surveys, geo-technical investigations, the production of construction drawings, design analyses and cost estimates and providing construction support.
