Lungmen
Nuclear Power Plant Project
Black & Veatch is part of the GE Nuclear Energy (GENE) team providing
the nuclear island design, equipment, supplying and managing the Information
Management System, and nuclear fuel for Lungmen, Taiwan's fourth nuclear
power plant. The 2,700 MW, two-unit advanced nuclear plant was built
at the Yenliao site in northeastern Taiwan.
Black & Veatch was selected by GENE as the preferred provider due
to previous work performed with ABWR (Advanced Boiling Water Reactor)
FOAKE (First-of-a-Kind-Engineering). The Lungmen project is the first
power plant opportunity for Black & Veatch to employ substantial
portions of the design work produced in the ABWR FOAKE project.
The project reactors will not be licensed by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory
Agency (NRC); however, contract provisions imposed by the client (and
the regulatory body in Taiwan - ROC-AEC) require the plant to be designed
in accordance with all applicable NRC regulations. Black & Veatch
therefore produced all appropriate Safety Analysis Reports and other
licensing support documentation to U.S. NRC regulations and U.S.code
and standard requirements.
