Black & Veatch Launches Power Delivery Strategy Practice, Names Industry Veteran to Guide New Service Offering for Clients

Overland Park, KS (December 14, 2005) – Black & Veatch Corporation today announced plans to further leverage the company’s strength and experience in energy markets across the U.S., building upon the growing need for power delivery capacity and modernization of existing utility infrastructure facilities.

A new Power Delivery Strategy Practice, housed within the company’s Enterprise Management Solutions (EMS) division, will provide management insight to clients, allowing them to develop strategies and plans that help maximize the value of existing facilities while accommodating future growth needs.

“Electric utilities have significant power delivery challenges both with aging infrastructure as well as the ability to site, permit and build new transmission facilities to relieve congestion and accommodate the continual electricity growth by their customers,” said Rodger Smith, President of Black & Veatch’s Enterprise Management Solutions (EMS) division. “This growth will require innovation and management solutions that are proven and prudent.”

EMS has named industry veteran Don Mundy to develop and lead the Power Delivery Strategy Practice. Smith said that the complex Energy Policy Act of 2005, coupled with the growing need for utilities to better plan and manage significant capital expenditures, creates challenges for which EMS can offer solutions.

“Don’s leadership and experience, coupled with our industry expertise and talent, position us to add immediate value to clients, helping them meet the vast array of power delivery challenges they face today,” said Smith.

Mundy is credited recently for his role in pioneering the company’s Client Relationship Manager (CRM) concept for the company’s B&V Energy business, an effort Smith says, provided Mundy with unique opportunities to assist energy clients in strategy and planning.

“Don has solid experience in providing management consulting services to many clients over the years as a Project Manager and Project Director of power delivery projects. The relationships he has built with clients, and the knowledge he has as both a strategist and an implementer, position him well to guide this effort.”
