Black & Veatch Names New National Practice Leader for Instrumentation and ControlSacramento, Calif. (April 5, 2004) – Black & Veatch, a leading global engineering, consulting and construction company, announced today that Dave W. Roberts, P.E., has joined the company as the National Practice Leader for Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Services for the Water Americas Division. Roberts will also oversee control system professionals in offices across the United States from the company’s Sacramento office. In the newly created position, Roberts will provide a centralized focus and direction for the division’s I&C services, including supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA). “Instrumentation and control in general, and SCADA in particular, are becoming increasingly important to our water and wastewater clients,” said Dan McCarthy, president of the Black & Veatch Water Americas Division. “The automation and intelligence provided by such systems is an increasingly important means by which utility and treatment plant managers interact with plant operations and generate compliance reports. Enhancing our I&C capabilities enables us to more effectively serve our clients by helping them more efficiently manage operations.” Roberts has nearly 20 years of technical and managerial experience in SCADA, instrumentation, control and electrical services for water and wastewater projects. His expertise encompasses planning, design, construction, field services, equipment/system purchasing, operator training and startup. Roberts previously served as a regional director for a specialty technology consulting company. His recent project experience includes serving as the construction-phase project manager for the San Francisco Water Department’s SCADA system, which provides primary and backup communications to approximately 80 remote sites from three control centers. In addition, Roberts recently served as project manager responsible for the development of a raw-water SCADA system master plan for the Santa Clara Valley Water District and as project manager for the Duff Water Treatment plant automation upgrade for the Medford (Ore.) Water Commission. Roberts is a member of the American Water Works Association and a registered electrical engineer. He earned a Master of Science degree in engineering from the University of California, Davis, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry, also from the University of California, Davis.
